Reconceptualizing Addiction Through the Lens of Intergenerational Shame

Reconceptualizing addiction through the lens of Intergenerational Shame was co-created with Dr Sarah Silveus, Phd and Dr Michael Schmit, PhD. It was a peer-reviewed research based presentation awarded for Counselor Educators at the SACES, Dallas, TX Conference in 2024.

The Presentation explored different models for addiction, defining shame, integrating developmental and wider racial and other types of trauma and shame into a reconceptualization of addiction as well as how intergenerational shame shows up in the classroom when educating counselors.
